All Wii games you purchase is an investment. You must protect your investment by backing up all your games. There are really only a couple of ways to copy Wii games that works. One requires and investment in hardware and one software investment. While both are methods proven effective, the first approach carries more risk.
The Wii Modchip
The great advantage of using a modchip is that any extraction software will be sufficient to copy Wii games and play. The cost of a chip starts at $ 25 and goes up from there. There are plenty of free products recording software to choose from and most are very good. The risk is with the Wii itself.
*WARNING* Know the risks that comes with installing a modchip…
Once the Wii console is opened, the warranty is void. Modchips installed incorrectly been known to damage the Wii beyond repair. Installing firmware updates for the Wii is no longer an option, since the upgrade chip is detected and off the console.
The Wii Softmod
The way it is now recommended to copy or backup Wii game called “softmod”. No hardware to buy or install, all done with the software. You can continue to update your Wii and will remain covered by the warranty.
The cost includes the purchase of appropriate software. The price of the software starts at about $ 40. There are several proven options, but I have only experience with these three products:
- Easy Backup Wizard <- the cheapest with the most features (read my review here)
- Game Copy Pro
- Wii HomeBrew
Although the initial cost may be a bit more with the softmod approach is much better in the long term. You can still play online with copies of the game softmod. Your Wii is in a state factory which is still under warranty. If you decide to take your game to another place to play, but also must have the Wii console, as it will play on any Wii, even one that has a chip installed. If you are interested in purchasing softmod software, check out my review of Wizard Eazy backup here.
